Gonzales Spartan Varsity Football team travelled to Watsonville on Saturday 19, 2015 to take on the St. Francis Catholic School Sharks. The Spartan defense had a feeding frenzy on the Sharks and allowed no touch downs. In the end, the sharks looked like fish out of water under the blistering 90 degree heat as the Spartans advanced to their 3-0 start on the season.
On a hot Saturday among the strawberry fields, the JV Spartans showed up to take the St. Francis Sharks on in a game of Football. The shark attack proved to be too much for the Spartans. The score was worse than it seems (49-6), as the Sharks ran up the score in the 4th once the Spartan reserves were in the game.
The JV’s fell to 1-2 on the season.
JV hosted the Condors for their home opener of the 2015 season. The Condors fought hard but the Spartans were too much for them and won 26-0. Defense and special teams smothered the Condors and provided turnovers and a score resulting the JV’s first win of the season.
Gonzales Varsity Football played it’s first home game of the 2015 season vs the Condors on sept 11, 2015. This was a hard fought match with big hits on both sides of the ball from both teams. When the dust cleared, the Spartans prevailed with a 16-0 win. Defense was a big factor in the shut out win.
Pictures were limited because our ‘chain gang’ flaked and I couldn’t take shots while helping man the chains.
Gonzales Spartans opened their Football preseason vs Harbor High Pirates on Friday Night, September 4th.
Friday Night Lights at Harbor?! That’s right, the Pirates brought in some lights and hosted the Spartans to a friday night battle!
The Spartans fought with valor and ran the pirates aground at their harbor. The defense was stingy, and offense showed flashes of brilliance. The pirates fought hard but the Spartans dropped their anchor on the shipload of pirates and marched out with a win, 46-7.
