Gonzales Spartans Varsity Football team battled the visiting Pajaro Valley Grizzlies in a physical and hard fought scrimmage on friday night, Sept 28th, 2018.

Pajaro Valley stunned the Spartans with an opening onside kick that it recovered and quickly capitalized on. The Spartans responded with a defensive score of their own. It was at this moment that the Spartans realized they were in for a bruising fight all night long. PV Grizzlies did not dissapoint, as they matched the Spartans on scores.

The homecoming parade floats drove by at halftime and witnessed the slim lead by the Spartans, 21-20. While the crowd celebrated the homecoming court, the Spartans were busy discussing strategy. Adjustments were made, nerves were cooled, and the Spartans put on their smiles as they were getting exactly what they wanted.. the best fight their opponent could muster.

The second half was dominated by the Spartans as they beat the Grizzles soundly, 40 – 20. The battle tested Spartans are now 5-0, a feat that has not been replicated since the championship years of coach Welsh in the 70’s
