The Gonzales Spartans Varsity Football team marched into King City on October 4th to defend it’s possession of the megaphone as part of the oldest rivalry of Monterey County (since 1932). The KC team was looking to do it’s best to retake the megaphone from the strong hold of the Spartans.
The Spartans put on an electric display of offense with several trick plays that tested and took advantage of the undisciplined Mustangs. Their offense sputtered several times in the end zone however, and they failed to put the Mustangs away.
The mustangs scored on two long plays, one coming within 90 seconds of the game ending with the Spartan reserves already in the game. Despite the close score, the Spartan Defense controlled the game most of the way, retaining control of the Megaphone for one more year!
Thanks to Jocelyn Ramirez for taking pictures. If some of the pictures are dark it’s because the Mustangs turned off the lights in an effort to dampen the mood on the victorious Spartans. The Spartans responded by celebrating loudly over the fallen Mustangs!
