Gonzales High School Spartan Varsity Football team invaded Rabobank stadium on Friday Sept 20, 2019 with the intention of ruining the North Salinas Vikings Homecoming plans.

In a tale of two halves, the Spartans dominated the Vikings in the first and 2nd quarters. The only thing preventing the score from being more lopsided were the Spartans’ lack of focus as they killed their own drives with penalties.

The second half was a different story with the Vikings marching down the field on the Spartans and scoring twice to the tune of 13 unanswered points. The vikings went for the win with less than 2 mins left in the game, opting to go for 2 points on the extra point attempt. With all the momentum on their side and a run offense that the Spartans could not stop, it seemed all but certain that the Vikings were going to celebrate a homecoming victory!

The Spartans Defense pulled out their nerd hats and did their best Gandalf vs Balrog impersonation denying the passage to set up the Victory for the Spartans! Gonzales ran the clock out with their last 3 touches and finished their preseason with a 3-1 record.
