Chalky Protein, my favorite.
I have recently met some people who had questions about what type of protein to take while recovering from Bariatric Surgery. They had heard horror stories about ingesting thick and chalky liquids that taste like sand and dirty water. The stuff they had tried was passable, but either made them bloat or was not too tasty.
Being the good listener that I am 😉 I asked for what types of requirements they needed in the protein. Basically they wanted protein that was:
- Low Calorie
- Lactose Free if possible
- Tasted Good
- Mixed Well
- Had 20+ grams of Protein in a serving
I told them, you just described the protein shake that I like to take, Dymatize Iso-100!
Are you ready?
It was on then Brudda! The protein shake chef in me burst to life! I busted out with a cornucopia of tubs. I had Chocolate, Vanilla, Cookies and Cream, Pina Colada, Berry, and Banana. I was like Emerril, Bam! Bam! and BAM!!
I explained how I mix the flavors up and make tropical inspired drinks using some OJ mixed in with Berry, and Pina Colada Flavors. I showed them how Banana and Vanilla proteins mixed together tastes just like Banana Nestle Quick.
Chocolate and Vanilla tasted like a milk chocolate shake, and on and on. Dymatize Iso-100 was a hit, especially since I mixed them up with water only which meant no bloating for the lactose intolerant. They also saw first hand 10 seconds of shaking is about all it takes to mix well.
Mission Accomplished
In 15 mins, I removed the pending sentence of drinking a vanilla paste for 3-6 months and replaced it with a feeling of, ‘ok, I can do this’.
So the plan now is to put 3 scoops of protein into 10-16 oz of water, and sip on it throughout the day.
So of course everyone is different and there are products specially made for people who are recovering from bariatric surgery. Dymatize may not taste good to you and you should run anything you plan to take by your doctor or nutritionist.
I thought I would share this experience in case anyone in a similar post surgery situation is looking. Please feel free to recommend any other products you have taken that could help someone recovering from bariatric surgery.
